M8 broken display

Bought an m8 some years ago, great camera. No issues at all. Terminal week I increased the brightness of the display somewhat. Adjacent day broken display.. It is non the coffee stain problem. The display is completely white/vivid sometimes with vertical striping. Photographic camera withal works. Went to the Leica shop in Vienna and they said it can't be repaired anymore.

Any suggestion? Mayhap a dealer who still DOES repairs similar this?

My problem is I do non dare buying M8 or M9 anymore, to risky. M240 I exercise not like so much. M10 I consider still expensive fifty-fifty 2nd hand. Not certain I am going to walk effectually with such an expensive camera.

Thanks for any advice!

Re: M8 cleaved display

That's a bummer (equally we say) - But, you don't need the monitor, as y'all say the camera itself still works.. Then cover the monitor with a slice of blackness record.. Shoot away.. A bit like a B&W camera.. Your experience tin embrace virtually situations.. Y'all could too pick up a Leica refurb M9..L

To a degree, you don't. But in case yous want to check or change settings, such every bit ISO or exposure compensation, the screen is the but way to do and so.

Thank you for the suggestions. Aye, I tin apply it without brandish. But without irresolute settings every bit it is pretty hard to alter these. Complicated 'dance of the buttons'.

Aye, I know.... But you must think what your ISO setting was!  Employ PP to tune your images..   50

Yes, in theory. But in practice information technology could get prepare to a different value by blow, simply as other settings could. Without a screen, information technology's challenging to reset some of these (e.g. exposure compensation) as those need several steps in the menu. As well it could be challenging to set ISO to a specific desired value without screen.

There's a reason the M-D 262 (which has no brandish) has an ISO-dial

Aye, in theory. But in practice information technology could get prepare to a different value by accident, just as other settings could. Without a screen, it's challenging to reset some of these (eastward.g. exposure bounty) every bit those need several steps in the menu. At that place'due south a reason the Yard-D 262 (which has no display) has an ISO-dial

As far every bit I know, the screen of the M8 was discontinued for quite some time past now.

Hopefeully, someone can signal you to a 3rd-political party repair-service which may take spare parts on stock. Merely the repair + parts may well cost more than than a good M8 is worth currently. And with a repaired screen, you even so have a 15-year-old electronic device, with all the associated risks.

Re: M8 cleaved display

M8s are an unfortunate photographic camera, but Leica can work on them. Something near a  grounding rig speciallymade for the M8. Both YYE and SAG told me this when I was looking to have my viewfinder settings worked on, they are potent and a lens won't set them. The simply easy matter to practise without the screen is to set the ISO, ii clicks on Ready and up or downwardly arrows. Mine is e'er on 160 and I only use that or 320, and then fairly easy. Probably the best solution is to find some other M8.

What a pity for an RF ..:-(
